STMA on Assignment

Meet Harold Carpenter
Short-Term Minister Abroad

I first become involved in Short-Term Missions ministry as an 18-year-old college student in 1958. I spent the summer of my freshman year evangelizing in Guatemala.

Following graduation from Southwestern Bible College, my wife Myrna and I returned to Arkansas to pastor until receiving missionary appointment to South America in 1964. After serving four terms in South America, we returned home on furlough in 1982 and were assigned as Missionary-in-Residence at CBC. Two years later we were invited to stay on and head up the missions training program. Little did I know that God would be opening doors of service for me around the world.

Five different years, the students at CBC raised funds for purchasing large evangelism tents, generators, sound systems and other equipment and I led teams of students in church-planting crusades in Mexico, Chad, Cape Verde, and Spain. I led other teams in tabernacle construction in Mali.

Beginning in 1984, I spent my summer months teaching graduate courses in Latin America, Europe, Africa, Asia, and the south Pacific. Over the past 25 years, I have been able to participate in the training of national church leaders and pastors through teaching more than 40 graduate level courses in 20 countries. I have been especially blessed to have been able to participate in the opening of new fields of endeavor for the Assemblies of God in Equatorial Guinea, Chad, and Cape Verde.

While I have been able to invest in the lives and ministries of others through these Short-Term Assignments, my own life has been immeasurably blessed by seeing first hand what God is doing around the world. The friendships that I have developed and the relationships that I enjoy with these leaders and servants of God around the world have enriched my life!
